FAQs

What styles of singing and performance do you coach? Within each of us lies a unique, natural voice. My specialty is helping you free your instrument from unnecessary tension so that your authentic voice can emerge, creating a firm foundation upon which real growth can occur. Through this process, you will naturally expand your range, smooth the transitions between registers, and increase your power, allowing you to achieve an ease and access you may have never experienced before. Once we have built this foundation, you can apply your voice to any style or medium with confidence and artistic integrity, whether that be singing (pop, classical, musical theater, and beyond) or spoken-word performance.

How do I know if I need a vocal coach vs. a voice teacher?
Many students ask about this distinction. Traditionally, a voice teacher focuses on the technical mechanics - the free and balanced coordination of breath and vocal-fold activity, which includes establishing a consistent low breath connection - that allows your voice to function at its peak. A vocal coach, by contrast, focuses on the application of that technique, including repertoire, performance style, and artistic interpretation. In my studio, these roles are inseparable. My approach combines meticulous technique with artistic coaching to ensure you can sing or act safely, confidently, and expressively.

How long is a typical voice lesson, and how often should I attend?
Voice lessons are 45 minutes in length. I find this is the perfect amount of time to stimulate the vocal muscles and cover all the necessary technical and artistic work without overdoing it. The voice is a delicate instrument, and this focused timeframe allows us to achieve meaningful progress while ensuring you leave the lesson feeling energized rather than fatigued. Regarding frequency, consistency is the key to real growth, so we can discuss the schedule that will best support your personal goals during our initial consultation.

Are online voice lessons via Zoom as effective as in-person lessons?
Yes, online lessons are just as effective as meeting in person. We can achieve high-quality results, and I can still provide the same level of focus, clarity, and personal guidance — including all the nuanced vocal work-that you would receive in the studio.

What equipment do I need for Zoom voice lessons?
To get the most out of your online sessions, I recommend a stable internet connection. While an external microphone can sometimes be a helpful addition to improve sound quality, it is certainly not required. Enabling Zoom's "Original Sound for Musicians" setting is the most important step to ensure we are hearing the clearest version of your voice.

What age groups do you teach, and can beginners take singing lessons?
I specialize in working with singers and actors whose voices have transitioned past the primary physical shifts of puberty. Because I prioritize a healthy, sustainable approach to vocal growth, I find that working with voices that have moved into this more stable stage of development allows for much more effective and meaningful progress. Whether you are a beginner or a professional looking to refine your craft, if your voice has moved past these initial changes, I would love to help you build a solid, healthy vocal technique.

Where is your voice studio located, and is there parking?
My studio is located in the Hollywood Hills, and I provide private parking for all my students. Once you have booked your session, I will send you specific details and clear instructions for your arrival.

What if I'm feeling unwell or need to cancel a lesson?
I know that life happens! To ensure we stay on track, I ask that you let me know as soon as you can if you need to reschedule. The time that was reserved for you is specifically held for your development, and early notice allows me to offer that space to another student who may be looking for a session. Regarding your wellness, my studio is equipped with air filtration for a healthy environment, and I ask that you please stay home if you are feeling under the weather so we can keep everyone safe.

Do you offer an introductory voice consultation?
Yes, I offer a complimentary consultation to discuss your voice and goals. This is a great first step to determine if we are a good fit for one another, and you can book yours by reaching out through my contact page.
